Dr. McGinty is a graduate of the University of California at UCLA where he received honors in the neurosciences. Prior to medical school, he was a research assistant at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA where he studied the cardiovascular complications of diabetes. He then received his medical school training in Boston at Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his medicine residency training at the University of California San Diego and was staff physician and UC San Diego faculty member in the Department of Medicine at the VA San Diego in La Jolla from 2007 to 2009. He then went on to complete his fellowship in general cardiology at the University of California at Davis prior to returning to practice in the coastal San Diego area.

Dr. McGinty’s prior research interests included diabetic cardiovascular disease, the role of platelets and inflammation in heart attacks, and the evaluation of minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of mitral and aortic valvular heart disease. He is trained in invasive and non-invasive cardiology techniques including exercise testing, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and coronary angiography. His clinical emphasis involves preventive cardiology with early identification and prevention of atherosclerotic coronary heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.
