Martin L. Charlat
General and Interventional Cardiology
Dr. Martin Charlat graduated from University of Manitoba in 1981. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec followed by a fellowship in Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Charlat has been in practice since 1987 and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases with subspecialty certification in Interventional Cardiology.
Dr. Charlat developed special skills in the area of lnterventional Cardiology over a 30 year period, including early use of the transradial approach starting in 2000 for cardiac catheterization and angioplasty/stent placement. He began treating aortic valve stenosis patients with Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) starting in 2011. His clinical practice includes several decades of emergency oncall coverage for patients with acute coronary syndromes. This experience with interventions has been incorporated into his early cardiovascular screening of outpatients for coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular conditions.
The ultimate goal of successful cardiology care with physician and patient collaboration includes early detection, long term prevention, when combined with active testing and appropriate treatments.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, children and traveling to visit family. He attends performing arts events and follows ice hockey. He likes site seeing and sampling coffee at shops in different cities while on vacation.
